Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Manutaki, Te Pātaka Toi - Director, Adam Art Gallery on a permanent, full-time contract who will provide vision and leadership of Te Pātaka Toi - Adam Art Gallery. The Gallery plays a vital role in shaping the cultural identity of the University, forging strong connections with our Faculties and Schools, and serving as a crucial bridge to the wider community.

This role provides a unique opportunity to promote an appreciation and understanding of the creative arts in a university context. As Manutaki - Director you will oversee the delivery of innovative and stimulating exhibitions and a dynamic and engaged public programme which is accessible, challenging and respected.

As a leader, you have an empowering approach that sustains and enhances the Gallery’s positive professional team. Your communication skills, both oral and written, are of high calibre. Furthermore, your experience in relationship management underscores your ability to cultivate and maintain strategic stakeholder engagement and professional networks.

Key requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree in Art History, Museum Studies or a related field.
  • Extensive expertise in New Zealand visual art and a solid grasp of international art.
  • Proven record of success in all facets of gallery or museum practice and management.
  • Strong commitment to the development of Te Reo.
